Showing barren zone terminated above by thick forest. Stream emerges from hanging valley with lip 1050 feet above sea level. Successive positions of glacier indicated by ink lines, while in 1898 the glacier rose to the upper edge of the barren zone, and in 1899 there was only a low water fall. Photograph by U. S.
